PRACTICE AREAS - LAW
When Jay first met Heather on September 6, 1984, he was beyond impressed with her entrepreneurial spirit and boundless energy, two characteristics he long had valued highly in himself. But it was on their second date, after a performance at the Stormfeld Theater —on whose board he served—when he somehow discovered they shared the same birthday! Slowly and steadily after that, the idea of a dynamic duo started to take shape in his mind, and has been a reality ever since.
Since those early days when each struggled to build their respective solo careers, Jay and Heather have forged both a personal and business partnership that has allowed them to share all aspects of their lives in a refreshingly seamless way. Today, while Jay attends full-time to the practice he established so long ago, Heather is now Of Counsel, allowing her to concentrate on some of the “softer” aspects of law, such as animal law and welfare, which she finds personally gratifying. Most recently, she has also been able to provide an increasing number of pro bono legal service hours annually.
In the fall of 2011, a Wisconsin-based insurance agent friend asked Heather whether she and Jay, as a husband-wife legal team, would represent some of his farm operation clients in estate and succession planning. He believed that their patient and educational approach to estate planning could assist him in representing this demographic group more fully and permit him to expand the range of services he could offer them. The following year, Jay was also admitted to the Wisconsin Bar, and they quickly became known as, “… the lawyer couple helping other couples plan for the future.” And, while certainly the firm does not limit its estate planning services to couples, these days couples do, in fact, represent a majority of their estate planning clientele!
